Freedom, History, and Legacy from Plantation to Emancipation
Celebrate Juneteenth with a powerful educational journey through Black history in Texas. Join us for a guided Black History Bus Tour exploring the stories of enslaved Africans, emancipation, resilience, and the historic Freedom. Colonies connected to Wilson County and the Cibolo Creek region. This special Juneteenth edition tour offers participants an opportunity to reflect, learn, and honor the lives and legacy of formerly enslaved people whose stories helped shape Texas history. This experience is more than a tour — it is a living classroom, cultural journey, and Juneteenth remembrance experience.
Tour Highlights
Stop 1 – View the Historic Polley Mansion
Explore the history of the Polley Mansion and learn about the enslaved Africans who lived and labored at Whitehall Plantation from 1836–1865.
Stop 2 – Visit the Museum Exhibit
Visit the museum featuring “The Enslaved People of J.H. Polley Plantation, Whitehall, Sutherland Springs, Texas1836–1865” exhibit.
Stop 3 – Haven Oaks Church & Freedom Colonies
Visit historic Haven Oaks Church and learn about the Freedom Colonies established by formerly enslaved African Americans following Emancipation.

Please arrive 30 minutes early. The bus will leave on time.

Guests will enjoy a complimentary Southern-style lunch and fellowship as part of this special Juneteenth experience. Food, fellowship, storytelling, and community gathering have always been important traditions of Juneteenth celebrations, and we are honored to continue that spirit together on this journey.
